All three tress can be pruned in the Spring, but there are small discrepancies that we observe here at Las Cruces Tree Pros & take note of. For instance, while it is best to trim & prune these trees in early Spring, if a tree like the Afghan Pine has branches that become damaged or mangled, it is best to address them right away.

Things to know about tree trimming

You may be wondering, "If there is so much hassle involved in trimming a tree, why would I even do it, let alone PAY someone to do it?" Fantastic question! One major thing to remember is that we're taking care of a living thing here! Trimming and pruning a tree (One of the less invasive services) can make a world of difference, and only needs to be done twice a year. Trust us, your tree will be greener, and certainly happier. Again, these are generalities as it comes down to the species of tree, but the reason why early Spring is such an ideal time is that the trees are dormant. When there is no signs of a tree budding or blooming is ideal. As well this is an ideal time for our workers to handle more jobs as the heat is not at a dangerous level. The climate of the region and age of the trees are important factors as well. Trimming a younger tree leads to a more manageable process as the tree grows. The climate will also directly impact the rates that certain trees will grow.

As we dive more into the discussion of properly maintaining the health of your tree, it is essential for both you and your tree that you be on the lookout for dead branches as they can become a hazard to you, your tree, and your property. Depending on the time of the year some trees will look dead as they have gone into a dormant state, but there are a few signs that may indicate the state of the tree.

Is there fungus growing at the trunk of the tree? It may be rotted and dead on the inside. Does the tree trunk have damage? Large cracks or missing bark can be a red flag. If the base of the tree appears to be alive but the branches are bare, you can always perform a scratch test. Using a small knife, scratch the outside of a branch. If the inside of the tree is green and wet, the branch is alive. If the inside is not green and is brittle it is most likely dead.  If the base of the tree is alive but there are dead branches, it is important to give us a call and handle business. Dead branches can snap and fall onto you or your property, and a dead branch is detrimental to the wellbeing of your tree. We can double check the state of your tree's health and take care of business. Have a trained expert come by today and take care of all of your tree related needs. We didn't become experts for nothing!
